Mr. Walsh grew up in Albuquerque, attending APS schools (Hubert Humphrey Elementary, Eisenhower Middle, and La Cueva High). He graduated from Baylor University in Waco, TX with a Liberal Arts degree in Religion and German. At UNM, he worked on 2/3 of a MA in Architecture and earned a Master's Degree in Education. He has taught 4th grade for 13 years at ACS.
He enjoys sharing his love for God's Creation with the students and how to be resourceful stewards. Thus, the fourth graders have been enlisted to help with recycling for the past decade at the school, and only slightly more recently to be the leaders of our vermicomposting project, with worms as a great partner to help us better care for God’s Creation.
Mr. Walsh and his wife, Catalina (aka Señora Salinas), who is from Bolivia, were married in 2011. He is slowly learning some Spanish, and loves visiting Bolivia to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoys running, tennis, planting trees, and projects at home.
Mr. Walsh is amazed daily by the students – especially fourth graders – whom he obviously spends the most time with. “They're so caring, intelligent, hard-working, ambitious, and just all-around wonderful people. It's not everyone who gets to say that about who they work with every day...and then add that they're (only) nine or ten years old!”
