Accomplishments
Students at Annunciation Catholic School are challenged not only academically, but offered a variety of opportunities to participate and excel in sports and scholastic events.
Over 130 students participate in athletics - most playing multiple sports. Annunciation holds titles in:
- JV Girls’ Cross Country Champions
- Flag Football 8th Grade Champions
- Girls’ Volleyball 6th Grade Champions and 6th and 8th grade Runner Up
- Girls’ Basketball 5th grade Champions and 6th Grade Girls’ Runner Up
- Boys’ Basketball 8th & 7th Grade Champions & 8th Grade Runner Up
- Numerous Golf tournament titles and placings
- Varsity and JV Boys’ Track Champions
- Great Southwest Track Meet: 4x100m, 1st place and 100m, 4th place
Our students also demonstrated excellence in the following events:
- Science Olympiad: 2nd and 4th team placing at regionals and 3rd placing at state
- Destination Imagination: "Spinning a Tale” State Winning Elementary Team
- Faith Challenge Bowl Team: Third year in a row Archdiocesan School Champions
- Jr. First Lego League Tykes for Legos: "Thinking Outside the Box” and 1st Place Inspiration Award
- Super Computing Challenge: Judges Award
- State Science Fair: Microbiology - Honorable Mention
- State Science Fair: Physics - 1st Place
As a school, we have actively participated in submitting grant proposals for various educational opportunities. From 2009 to date we have successfully been awarded the following grant monies, materials, and recognition:
- $40,000 HP EdTech Grant: Awarded 20 laptop computers and Software for science labs and research capabilities. Also awarded 1 of 10 awards worldwide for innovative technology in science education.
- $1,000 Toshiba America: Rockets, parachutes, and gliders to simulate the movie Toy Story. Students used straw rocket launchers, parachute construction, and student designed gliders to learn about force, angle of launch and Newton’s Laws
- $2,000 PNM: Digital cameras, SMART slates and printing materials for student generated energy themed calendars for refugees to apply time management skills
- Albuquerque Museum and BioPark Fellowship: One of six teachers given behind the scenes tours and expert advice on enhancing the science curriculum
- University of Texas McDonald’s Observatory - Comets Fellowship: One of thirteen teachers to attend a 3 day workshop and receive curriculum, classroom supplies experience with telescopes and contact information
- Wells Fargo: Study materials for further study and education regarding magnetism and engineering
- New Mexico Challenger Center - Pets in Space student writing competition: Awarded a space station simulation field trip to the New Mexico Challenger Center
- $1,000 PNM: Greenhouse for the study of agriculture and health education
Annunciation Catholic School received Road Runner Recognition from the 2007 and 2010 New Mexico Quality Awards Program for showing evidence of making progress and is "on the move" toward performance excellence
